Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.
I have never been the best at trying something new.
I’m the kind of person who has to force myself to consciously try new things. Force, being the operative word in that sentence.
My sister is always willing to jump into new activities. I’ve always admired her courage and love of exploration. Rock climbing seemed interesting to her. All of a sudden… DONE! She’s got the gear and can get around a rock with no problems. She wanted a blanket to keep her warm. So she just picked up knitting for fun. This past summer she wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle. Guess who has a bike and a M-class license? My sis.
I love the way that my sister lives her life: with joy, courage, and curiosity.
Well, this week I took a cue from my sister and tried something new: a makeup youtube video.
I have always loved watching beauty how-to videos online and have fallen in LOVE with this little girl’s makeup channel. Her name is Madison. She’s FEARLESS. She wanted to be a pirate so she did a tutorial on drawing an eyepatch. She decided to be a sunflower and had a wonderful makeup look and costume done. Long story short, she’s holding a contest for best homemade halloween look and I decided to enter.
I’ve never attempted to do a makeup tutorial video and I was quite nervous. But after a couple of hours of filming and editing, I finally got a finished product that I’m proud of. I learned a lot doing this tutorial. Sure, my technique wasn’t the best and my look wasn’t perfect but I had a great time making it and I’m proud of what I’ve created.
Trying new things may be still be difficult for me to say yes to, but it never fails to make me happy when I do them. Madison always says it best: I really love it, you gotta try it.
I have a large amount of guilt right now for not blogging ANY new posts for the past couple of weeks. The size of my guilt is about the size of this cute whale:
These past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of activity! I went home to see my family which was AWESOME. It was a wonderful trip and I finally got to hang out with my sister in her new town. We went hiking and heard a mountain lion roar. We also met a llama.
I got to hang out with my puppies and I filmed the most hilarious video of my dog Rosie on her belly being dragged around on some carpet. It looks like she’s speed skating!
After that, I celebrated a ton of birthdays. I happen to collect many virgo and libras as my close friends.
The following week, I went to Humboldt county for a quick vacation and visit to my bf’s parents. We went on an AMAZING hike through this place called Fern Canyon. It’s literally a canyon of ferns. While walking through it, you expect to see dinosaurs jumping out of the foliage at any moment.
When I was in Humboldt, I also fell in love… WITH KITTENS!!
I have always been super allergic to cats and therefore, was never allowed to play with them. My bf’s parents had two kittens:
Because they were outdoor cats, I was able to play with them for hours without any allergic reactions. I. LOVE. CATS. Yes, I have become a cat lady at heart. One day when I live in a place where I have enough property and am far away enough from any busy streets, I will own outdoor kitties.
I came home and was promptly greeted with many out of town guests including my mother, my bf’s mother and my sister. My sister visiting was a HUGE highlight for me this past month. We had a blast hanging out, goofing around, and watching copious amounts of LAW & ORDER: SVU. My bf commented that we had to be sisters since we both are addicted to L&O: SVU.
Finally, this week, I have had an opportunity to catch up, get some proper rest and start a new exciting creative endeavor with some wonderful people. Also, I’m obsessed with fall scented candles. OBSESSED. It’s been 90˚F every day recently but I’ve been burning the scent of toasted marshmallows like crazy in my house.
After a month of traveling and taking care of out of town guests, I am SO grateful to be home. Being away always makes me appreciate the simple pleasures in life: your own bed, having all your toiletries out in your bathroom, clean clothes, etc. Having visitors makes me so grateful for the family and friends that I have. It also makes me appreciate the quieter times in life. There is nothing like curling up in bed and reading a good book until you fall asleep.
Hope your fall has been wonderful and I’m SO glad to be back!!
